Actor Ketaki Chitale held for the post against Sharad Pawar sent to police custody

On Sunday, a Thane court-ordered Marathi actress Ketaki Chitale to be held in police custody till May 18. Chitale did not hire an attorney and will be representing herself in court for the time being. She was detained on Saturday for reportedly posting an insulting comment on Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) head Sharad Pawar on Facebook.

The Kalwa Police filed a defamation charge against Chitale on Saturday, and the matter was later moved to the Thane Crime Branch. The Thane crime branch had demanded five days of custody of Chitale in court on Sunday, and officers from the Goregaon police station were also there to take her custody.

“Chitale was arrested from her apartment in Nerul Kalamboli area on Saturday and presented before the court on Sunday,” said a senior police officer from Thane Crime Branch unit 1. We’re now looking for Bhave, the poet who authored the original poem.”

So far, the actor has been charged in five cases for posting a post on Sharad Pawar’s looks, sickness, and voice.
