Virat Kohli, the former captain of India, became the first Indian to exceed 200 million Instagram followers on Tuesday.
“There are 200 million people in the world. Thank you for all of your support, Instagram family “In an Instagram post, Kohli stated.
After Cristiano Ronaldo (450M) and Lionel Messi (450M), the 33-year-old is also the most followed cricketer and third most followed sportsperson in the globe (333M)
After the ICC T20 World Cup in the UAE last year, Kohli stood down as T20I captain. India’s performance at the showcase event was humiliating, as they crashed out in the group stage.
Kohli was then relieved of his ODI captaincy by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), who replaced him with Rohit Sharma. Kohli also stepped down as Test skipper following India’s three-match series loss in South Africa. Rohit Sharma has been named the next Test captain by the BCCI.
Between June 9 and 19, India will host South Africa for five Twenty20 Internationals. Kohli and Rohit are among the players who will be allowed a break once the IPL 2022 concludes.
