The Kashmir Files, a controversial film by filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri, has proven a major success at the box office. The film, based on the flight of Kashmiri Pandits, grossed Rs 331 crore globally since its debut on March 11.
The film starred Anupam Kher, Darshan Kumar, Pallavi Joshi, and Mithun Chakraborty. The film was published via OTT platform ZEE5 on May 13 after a successful theatrical run. The film has received over 9 million (90 lakh) views in just one week.
The Kashmir Files received the most views (6 million) and streaming minutes (220 million) in the first weekend, according to sources. It had 9 million views and 300 million streaming minutes in its first week.
The Kashmir Files has shattered all records on ZEE5, according to the figures.
ZEE5 is also the first OTT platform to distribute a film with Indian Sign Language interpretation with this film. The film was also released in Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada, in addition to Hindi. Last Monday, ZEE5 held a special showing of the film in Indian Sign Language in Mumbai, with 500 persons with hearing impairment in attendance.
Vivek Agnihotri also performed at a concert in Mumbai on May 13 to commemorate the film’s OTT release. The Kashmir Files Concert was organised after the film’s background soundtrack became a rage. Pallavi Joshi and Vivek Agnihotri performed during the performance. “For the first time in history, a film’s background music generated such a rage that we decided to organise an exclusive Performance of #TheKashmirFiles with stories given by principal characters of the film in ICONIC Royal Opera House,” Vivek Agnihotri tweeted upon announcing the concert.
